Agartala: In a major crackdown on organised smuggling, security agencies seized gold biscuits worth around Rs 19 crore along with unaccounted cash during a joint operation in Tripura, officials said on Wednesday.
The operation was carried out by the Assam Rifles in coordination with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in the Shantipara and Dhaleshwar areas of the state.
Officials said the seized gold biscuits weighed about 14 kg and were valued at nearly Rs 19 crore. In addition, unaccounted Indian currency amounting to Rs 2.87 crore was also recovered during the operation.
The Assam Rifles, in a statement, said the recovery “underscores the effective coordination and swift action” of the agencies in cracking down on organised smuggling activities.

“Such networks have been under close surveillance as part of sustained intelligence-led operations,” the statement added.
The seized gold and cash have been handed over to the DRI for further investigation and for initiating legal proceedings under the relevant laws, officials said.
