Guwahati: In a clampdown on drug trafficking, two men from Punjab were arrested in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Friday after authorities seized 2.7 kg of opium, police said.
A truck was intercepted at a checkpoint in Khatkhati, Bokajan sub-division, and a thorough search led to the recovery of two packets of opium, they added.
The truck was reportedly coming from Dimapur in Nagaland, and the arrested individuals were identified as residents of Punjab, police said.
“A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway,” a police officer confirmed.
The seizure has raised concerns over drug trafficking in the region. Assam has waged a war against drugs, strengthening enforcement across the state. Authorities are now investigating the source of the consignment and whether it is linked to larger networks operating across the Northeast.
