Imphal: As Manipur welcomed the New Year amid continuing political and social challenges, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla appealed to the people of the state to renew their commitment to peace, harmony and mutual respect.
Extending New Year greetings, Governor Bhalla urged all communities to work together to strengthen unity and foster lasting peace and stability. “As we step into 2026, let us collectively reaffirm our commitment to peace, harmony and mutual respect,” he said in a statement, adding that the coming year should focus on reinforcing bonds of brotherhood and upholding the spirit of unity in diversity.
Expressing optimism, the governor said he hoped 2026 would bring greater understanding, prosperity and well-being for all. “May the spirit of cooperation and compassion guide us towards building a peaceful, inclusive and prosperous Manipur,” he said.
Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February 2025, following the resignation of BJP leader N Biren Singh as chief minister amid criticism over his government’s handling of ethnic violence that claimed over 260 lives and displaced thousands.
Singh also extended New Year greetings, expressing confidence that 2026 would usher in new opportunities, renewed trust and steady progress for the state. “May the coming year bring peace, good health and prosperity to every household. Let us move forward together with renewed hope and unity,” he said in a post on X.
State Congress president K Meghachandra Singh echoed similar sentiments, saying he hoped the New Year would bring peace, healing and justice to every family, while restoring trust and harmony among communities.
Reflecting on the hardships of the past year, he said the people of Manipur had shown resilience and compassion despite pain and loss. “Let this year be one of reconciliation, dignity and lasting peace, where every voice is heard and every life is valued,” he added, wishing the people a New Year filled with hope, strength and a shared future of peace.
