Itanagar: Donyi Polo Day was celebrated across Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday with traditional gaiety, religious fervour, and deep reverence for indigenous faith and culture. People from various districts participated in prayers, rituals, and cultural programmes, reaffirming their commitment to the age-old belief system rooted in nature and ancestral wisdom.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu extended greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Donyi Polo Day, describing the indigenous faith as the core identity of the state and a living tradition rooted in ancestral wisdom, ethics and harmony with nature.
CM Khandu said the declaration of December 31 as Donyi Polo Day was a powerful affirmation of the state’s indigenous roots. Emphasising that the faith is intrinsic to the people’s way of life, he said Donyi Polo is neither adopted nor borrowed, but an inseparable part of their existence.
“Donyi Polo is not a borrowed belief. It is who we are. It is the foundation of our ethics, our relationship with nature, and our understanding of truth,” the chief minister said in a post on X, while also seeking blessings for wisdom, harmony and strength for all.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein also conveyed his greetings on the occasion and highlighted the relevance of Donyi Polo in everyday life. In a social media post, Mein said the faith reflects the traditional way of life in Arunachal Pradesh, teaching people to live in truth, balance and respect for nature.
He said Donyi Polo is deeply rooted in ancestral wisdom, with Donyi, the Sun, and Polo, the Moon, guiding people towards harmony, responsibility and righteousness. Calling for the continuation of traditional values in modern times, Mein urged people to remain connected to these timeless principles even as the state progresses.
