Guwahati: Three persons were arrested on Sunday after police recovered over 1.4 kg of fake gold biscuits from a vehicle in Assam’s Kamrup district, an official said.
Officer-in-charge of Rangia police station, Premankur Hazarika, said the seizure was made during a search operation based on specific intelligence inputs. The vehicle was intercepted while it was on its way to neighbouring Tamulpur district.
“We recovered 1.4 kg of fake gold biscuits in the form of 90 pieces weighing 10 grams each and 100 pieces weighing 5 grams each from the vehicle,” Hazarika said.
The three arrested persons include two residents of Bokajan in Assam and one individual from Rajasthan, the officer said. Police also seized the vehicle used for transporting the counterfeit gold and three mobile phones from their possession.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the fake gold and the network involved in its circulation, Hazarika added.

Police officials said efforts are on to determine whether the accused are part of a larger inter-state racket involved in the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit gold.
