Guwahati: Tension gripped the Gadain Raji area in Assam’s Dima Hasao district after a man was killed in a fatal hit-and-run incident on Friday (December 26).
The incident triggered tension among residents. The victim, identified as Seiminhao Lhangum, a resident of Numjang village under Mahur Police Station, was hit by an unidentified vehicle.
The vehicle fled the scene immediately after the incident, leaving the victim critically injured, and he died at the scene.
The incident sparked outrage, with locals gathering at the site and blocking National Highway-27 (NH-27), disrupting traffic for several hours. Protesters reportedly set tyres on fire, causing long traffic jams and leaving vehicles stranded.
Police and district administration officials rushed to the spot to calm the situation and restore normalcy. Additional security personnel were deployed to prevent any escalation, while efforts are underway to identify and trace the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.

Investigations are ongoing to trace the vehicle involved.
Authorities assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible and urged residents to cooperate as the investigation is underway.
