Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have arrested seven people, including four members of the banned United National Liberation Front (Pambei) [UNLF(P)] outfit, in connection with the hijacking of a truck carrying iced fish in Imphal West district, police said on Friday.
The four militants—Borish Sagolsem (25), Herojit Sharma (32), Asem Amar Meitei (20) and Md Salman Khan (35)—were apprehended from different locations in the district on Thursday.
According to the police, they had hijacked a truck loaded with boxes of iced fish from the Maharabi-Pheidinga Road.
UNLF(P), which signed a peace pact with the Centre in 2023, has continued to face arrests for alleged involvement in extortion and illegal firearms trafficking.
Police also seized the hijacked truck along with its cargo of iced fish, as well as two tipper trucks used to transfer the fish boxes.
Three other individuals, including the drivers of the seized vehicles, were also taken into custody.
In an unrelated operation on Thursday, security forces recovered 16 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the Kangvai area of Churachandpur district.
