Imphal: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday paid floral tributes at the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal on the occasion of the 86th Nupi Lal Day, which marks the two historic women-led uprisings against British rule in Manipur.
Murmu, who is on a two-day visit to the state, later offered prayers at the Shree Govindaji Temple located at the Palace Compound, about 2 km from the memorial.
“On the occasion of the 86th Nupi Lal Day, President Murmu offered floral tributes at the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal, paying heartfelt homage to the brave mothers of Manipur whose courage continues to inspire generations,” an official said.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla also laid floral tributes at the memorial.
Murmu is scheduled to visit Senapati district later in the day to interact with members of the Maram Naga community, the official said. She is also expected to inaugurate several projects during her visit to the district.
President Murmu, who is on a 2-day visit to the state, attended civic reception hosted by the state government in her honour at Imphal on Thursday. She also laid foundation stones and inaugurated various developmental projects.
She expressed confidence that the people from the valley and the hills will remain together with renewed harmony and take the state to great heights of prosperity and happiness.

Murmu also interacted with a few Internally Displaced Persons in Imphal.
She affirmed that the Central government is working to secure their homes, livelihoods, and the future of their children. She further assured them that the Government of India is taking all necessary steps to support their progress and foster an environment of peace and sustained prosperity.
