Kohima: Nagaland received Rs 4.78 crore from the North Eastern Council (NEC) in November for initiatives spanning youth and sports infrastructure, tourism promotion and the preservation of indigenous cultural practices, an official statement said.
The fund release formed part of NEC’s monthly update on project sanctions and progress across the Northeast, according to the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and the NEC Secretariat in Shillong.
Overall, the council disbursed Rs 56.22 crore to the eight northeastern states during the month for infrastructure development, livelihood enhancement, cultural events, seminars, and research and innovation-driven projects.
The NEC’s support for Nagaland covers key sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture and allied activities, tourism, culture and heritage, education, skill development, livelihood promotion and innovation, the state Information and Public Relations (DIPR) department said.
Reaffirming its commitment to timely fund flow and coordination with state governments, the council also released Rs 14.89 crore to central agencies and cultural organisations to facilitate regional events and academic activities.
Major interventions during the month included community development programmes for indigenous groups, animal feed production units, scientific pig-breeding facilities, piggery value-chain infrastructure, documentation of traditional medicinal knowledge and the expansion of tele-education through smart virtual classrooms. Sports infrastructure initiatives in Manipur also received NEC support.
The NEC further reported the completion of rainwater harvesting reservoirs for fire safety and a skill training centre in Nagaland—projects sanctioned in March 2023. The reservoirs have been set up at Dimapur (Assam border) and Khuzama (Manipur border), while infrastructure development has been completed at the skill training centre in Chiechama.

These facilities are expected to strengthen fire-safety preparedness and provide structured training opportunities for youth seeking careers in fire and emergency services, the DIPR added.
