Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated the new office building of the Directorate of Community and Rural Development (C&RD) at Lower Lachumiere, calling it a boost to the state’s efforts to strengthen rural governance and service delivery.
The inauguration was attended by C&RD Minister Sosthenes Sohtun, Chief Secretary Dr. Shakil P. Ahammed, Principal Secretary Sampath Kumar and C&RD Director S. C. Sadhu.
Addressing officials, Sangma said the C&RD department remains central to the economic and social progress of rural Meghalaya, noting that its implementation of schemes and welfare programmes has brought meaningful change to village communities.

While acknowledging the importance of improved infrastructure, he said efficient delivery ultimately depends on the dedication of the department’s workforce.
He reminded officials that nearly 80 per cent of the state’s population relies on services delivered through the C&RD system, urging them to continue working with commitment and responsibility.
