Agartala: Tripura’s Raj Bhavan has been officially renamed Lok Bhavan as a gesture of respect for democracy.
Raj Bhavan authorities made the announcement following instructions from Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and consultations with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The renaming follows central government directives and aims to update the title of the Governor’s residence in line with current nomenclature guidelines. From the effective date, all official references to Raj Bhavan will adopt the new name.
Authorities stated that comprehensive guidelines for the transition—including updates to signage, official documents, communication materials, and ceremonial protocols—will be issued in the coming days.
“The name `Raj Bhawan’ carries connotations of monarchy, whereas we are part of a democratic system. In a country where governments are elected by the people to serve their welfare, `Lok Bhawan’ is appropriate to honour the citizens,” Nallu stated.
Officials added that Lok Bhawan will be open to the public every Friday, allowing citizens to visit during specified hours.
All properties, official letterheads, documents, signage, and digital platforms associated with the Governor’s office will bear the name Lok Bhawan.
