GUWAHATI: In a sharp response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent observations on dynasty politics, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma termed him an “unpadh bacha” (illiterate child), alleging that the Congress leader lacks a nuanced understanding of the political landscape.
“Rahul has no knowledge about politics, and does not realise that he is at the core of dynasty politics… A family — mother, father, grandfather, sister, brother — everybody is in politics and is controlling the party. But, how can he see a parallel to that in the BJP?” Chief Minister was quoted as saying by a national news agency on Wednesday.
It all began when Gandhi, during a press meet in Mizoram, brought up the roles held by Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s son in the BCCI, questioning, “What does Amit Shah’s son do? What does (defence minister) Rajnath Singh’s son do?” He further pointed out, “Look at leaders in the BJP and ask yourself what their children are doing? Many of their children are dynasties.”

It’s noteworthy that Amit Shah’s son, Jay Shah, currently serves as the secretary of the BCCI and the president of the Asian Cricket Council. On the other hand, Rajnath Singh’s son represents Uttar Pradesh as an MLA.
“How does Amit Shah’s son come into the picture? He is not in BJP but Rahul’s entire family is in politics… Rahul thinks the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is a wing of the BJP. Don’t ask me much about him, he is an unpadh baccha (illiterate child),” Sarma mockingly added.
The Assam Chief Minister continued his criticism by questioning the comparison between Rajnath Singh’s son, a mere UP MLA, and Congress stalwart Priyanka Gandhi. “Does he control the BJP?” Sarma challenged.
Sarma concluded by urging Rahul Gandhi to offer opportunities to newer faces in his party before casting stones about dynasty politics.
