Aizawl: Mizoram Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry and Marketing Cooperative Federation Limited (MAHFEC), a state-run public sector undertaking, has entered into an agreement with Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL) to jointly work on the distribution of high-quality seeds, an official statement said on Wednesday.
The agreement was signed by MAHFEC managing director H. Vanhlupuia and BBSSL advisor Omveer Singh, in the presence of Mizoram Cooperation and Agriculture Minister PC Vanlalruata.
Cooperative Societies Registrar John LT Sanga, along with senior officials from the agriculture and horticulture departments, also attended the event.
BBSSL, a national cooperative society engaged in the production, procurement and distribution of quality seeds, has been chosen by the state government as the nodal agency for supplying high-quality seeds in Mizoram.
It was established by the Ministry of Cooperation to produce, procure, and distribute quality seeds under the single brand name ‘Bharat Beej’.
It was founded in 2023 under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies (MSCS) Act, 2002 and is promoted by major cooperative organizations like IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NDDB, and NCDC.

The society aims to improve crop yields, promote the use of certified seeds, and make India self-reliant in seed production and conservation.
It ensures that both traditional and scientifically prepared certified seeds reach farmers to improve crop yields.
