Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to bolstering cooperative societies and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, stressing that both are key to enhancing local livelihoods and economic resilience.
Speaking at the 72nd All India Cooperative Week celebration in Aizawl on Friday, CM Lalduhoma said the state is prioritising the promotion of local products and nurturing community-driven economic models. He noted that the Mizoram Procurement Preference Policy for Small & Medium Enterprises 2025 has already come into effect following its notification in the official gazette in February.
Highlighting the deep-rooted cooperative ethos within Mizo society, the Chief Minister said collective labour, unity, and mutual support have long been defining features of the Mizo way of life.
He added that the discipline and hard work of the Mizo people position them well to take on greater economic responsibilities through strengthened cooperative initiatives.
Lalduhoma praised several key cooperative bodies for their contributions, including the Mizoram Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union (MULCO) for its efforts to enhance local milk production, and the Mizoram Apex Handloom and Handicraft Cooperative Society Ltd (MAHCO) for working to expand the reach of Mizo handloom products nationally. He also commended the Mizoram State Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry and Marketing Cooperative Federation Ltd (MAHFED) for supporting farmers, producers, and entrepreneurs through effective marketing of agricultural and horticultural goods.
Cooperation Minister PC Vanlalruata was also present at the event.
Observed annually from November 14–20 since 1954, the All India Cooperative Week aims to promote and strengthen the cooperative movement. This year’s celebration holds special significance as it coincides with the United Nations’ declaration of the International Year of Cooperatives.

Mizoram currently has around 1,500 primary cooperative societies and 13 state-level cooperative federations or unions.
