Shillong: The Meghalaya Transport Department has made it mandatory for all commercial passenger vehicles in the state to display the names and contact details of their drivers and conductors.
The directive, issued through a notification dated September 23, 2025, includes taxis, auto-rickshaws, buses, national permit passenger vehicles, tourist permit vehicles, and school/educational institution transport vehicles.
As per the notification of the Transport department, all vehicle permit holders must display the following information: driver’s name, driving license number, contact details, permanent address, conductor’s name, license number, contact details, and permanent address (if applicable).
The details must be displayed in English and one regional language, either on the dashboard or the back of the front seat, ensuring they are clearly visible to passengers.
In vehicles employing conductors, their details must also be displayed. Existing permit holders have been given 30 days to comply with the order.

The department said the move has been introduced in the public interest to ensure transparency and strengthen passenger protection across Meghalaya’s commercial transport services.
