Guwahati: The annual parade of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will be held in Guwahati for the first time, marking a historic occasion for Assam and the entire Northeast, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) announced on Thursday.
According to the CMO, the event is likely to take place in early 2026.
“For the first time in Assam and the northeastern region, the annual parade of the @crpfindia is going to be held in Guwahati,” the CMO posted on X.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting on Wednesday on the matter with senior officials, including CRPF’s Director General GP Singh, at the Lok Sewa Bhawan.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is India’s largest central armed police force, responsible for internal security, maintaining law and order, and assisting with elections and natural disasters.
Originally formed in 1939 as the Crown Representative’s Police, it became the CRPF after the CRPF Act was passed in 1949.

Its duties include crowd and riot control, counter-insurgency operations, VIP protection, and participating in UN peacekeeping missions, and providing rescue and relief during natural disasters.
