GUWAHATI: Assam’s healthcare infrastructure received a substantial boost as Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 16 health-related projects in the state on Sunday.
These projects, collectively valued at approximately Rs 120 crores, is expected to make healthcare accessible and affordable for all its citizens in the state.
The newly launched initiatives include a 50-bed critical care block at Lakhimpur Medical College, the establishment of five block primary health units in different regions, the introduction of an integrated laboratory in Nagaon, and the inauguration of a community health centre in Dibrugarh.
Foundation stones were also laid for four sub-division hospitals and four additional community health centres, promising a comprehensive enhancement of healthcare facilities in the state.
During the inauguration ceremony, Mandaviya underscored the integral connection between the health of a nation’s citizens and its overall progress. He said, “Healthcare is fundamental for a nation’s development, and a country can only be deemed healthy when its citizens are in good health.”
The Union Health Minister expressed his contentment with the state’s healthcare development and hinted at a substantial upcoming project, indicating that its foundation would be laid in the near future.
Before these inaugurations, the Union Health Minister, on the last day of his two-day visit to Meghalaya, visited Ri-Bhoi, and engaged with ASHA workers and beneficiaries of various health schemes.
Mandaviya presided over a review meeting centred on the aspirational programme. This initiative aims to rapidly and effectively transform underdeveloped districts across the country.
Mandaviya also visited a health and wellness centre at Umsaw Nongkharai. He interacted with accredited social health activists (ASHAs) and beneficiaries of the health smart card initiative, a collaborative effort between the state and central governments.
Accompanied by State Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and senior district officials, a review meeting was conducted on the aspirational program at the Ri-Bhoi deputy commissioner’s office in Nongpoh.
