Assam BJP chief dares Gaurav Gogoi to act against Pradyut Bordoloi over ‘insensitive’ Red Fort blast remark

Guwahati: Assam BJP president and Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia on Tuesday hit out at the Congress over Nagaon MP Pradyut Bordoloi’s controversial social media post made in the wake of the deadly explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, calling it “insensitive and politically motivated.”

Addressing reporters in Guwahati, Saikia demanded that Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha and Assam unit chief Gaurav Gogoi take disciplinary action against Bordoloi, saying, “If Gaurav Gogoi truly stands for responsible politics, this is the time to show courage.”

The high-intensity blast that ripped through a parked car outside the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening claimed 12 lives and left several others injured.

Soon after the incident, Bordoloi had posted a comment implying the explosion could affect the Bihar elections—a remark he later deleted following public backlash.

Saikia condemned the statement, asserting that “such words expose a mindset that prioritises politics over compassion.”

He said that deleting the post “does not undo the insensitivity shown at a moment when the entire nation is in mourning.”

“The Congress leadership—Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Gaurav Gogoi—must decide if they condone this kind of behaviour. Families are grieving, and instead of empathy, a Congress MP saw an opportunity for political speculation,” Saikia said.

He also urged authorities to initiate legal action against social media users who “mocked or celebrated” the tragedy online.

“These are not ordinary comments. They hurt the nation’s sentiment and undermine the suffering of victims’ families,” he added.

Saikia further said the blast underscored the threat posed by cross-border terror networks, noting that the car used in the explosion was linked to a Haryana-based doctor suspected of having ties to extremist groups.

He said Union Home Minister Amit Shah has convened a high-level review meeting with officials from the NIA, NSG, Intelligence Bureau, and Delhi Police, directing them to ensure a time-bound investigation.

“The Prime Minister has made it clear—those behind this barbaric act will face the harshest punishment,” Saikia remarked.

The Assam BJP chief reiterated the Centre’s “zero tolerance” approach to terrorism, citing the recent arrests of eight alleged operatives from Gujarat, Haryana, and Hyderabad.

“Even educated professionals are being drawn into these networks. The government is determined to dismantle them completely,” he said.

Saikia went on to accuse the Congress of continuing its “politics of appeasement,” referring to remarks by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the Karnataka government’s alleged leniency toward a terror accused.

“The Congress must decide whether it stands with the nation or with its vote-bank politics,” he added.

Senior BJP leaders Rituporna Barua, Diplu Ranjan Sarma, Anup Barman, and media convenor Rupam Goswami were also present at the briefing.
