Veteran actor Dharmendra is stable and recovering, his daughter Esha Deol confirmed on Tuesday, dismissing rumours about the 89-year-old star’s health circulating on social media and in sections of the press.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Esha urged restraint from the media and requested privacy for the family.
“The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for papa’s speedy recovery,” she wrote.
The clarification came amid widespread speculation about the actor’s condition and even unverified reports of his death.
Dharmendra has been under observation at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital for the past few days.

His wife, veteran actor and politician Hema Malini, also appealed for calm late on Monday. “I thank everyone for their concern about Dharam ji, who is in hospital for observation. He is being continuously monitored and we are all with him. I request you all to pray for his welfare and speedy recovery,” she posted on X.
A representative for Dharmendra’s son, actor and BJP MP Sunny Deol, confirmed that the “Sholay” star was not on a ventilator, adding, “Mr Dharmendra is stable and under observation. We urge everyone to refrain from spreading false rumours and to respect the family’s privacy.”
Hema Malini, Sunny Deol and Esha Deol have been by the actor’s side at the hospital. Several members of the film fraternity, including Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Govinda, visited the family to offer support.
