Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday expressed grief over the powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort that claimed multiple lives and left several others injured.
Taking to X, Sangma wrote, “Deeply disturbed by the tragic incident near Red Fort, New Delhi. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of all those injured. Wishing them strength and healing in this difficult time.”
The blast, which tore through a slow-moving car at a traffic signal close to the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening, killed at least nine people and set several nearby vehicles ablaze, officials said.
Police sources said around twenty people, including two women, were injured in the high-intensity explosion that occurred during peak evening hours in one of the city’s busiest areas.
Investigators are probing whether the blast could have been the result of a suicide attack, as the car reportedly had three occupants.
