Itanagar: Police in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Siang district have arrested three staff members of a Sainik School in connection with the death of a 12-year-old cadet, who was allegedly subjected to bullying and torture by senior students.

The tragic incident at Sainik School Niglok claimed the life of a Class 7 student, Master Tadu Haro, on November 1.

Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba said that three persons had been arrested on Saturday (November 8, 2025) based on a case filed at the Ruksin police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The three are house masters Devendra Singh, 42, and Kangge Darin, 31, from Uttar Pradesh’s Mau district and East Siang district, respectively, and hostel superintendent Amar Singh Thakur, 51, from Himachal Pradesh’s Bilaspur district.

They were arrested after the police examined witness statements, forensic evidence, and the sequence of events that led to the death of the Class 7 cadet.

The accused have been remanded to judicial custody for 14 and 18 days, respectively, as part of the ongoing investigation.

The police have seized CCTV footage from the school premises, which is now under detailed examination. Authorities confirmed that portions of the video will be shared with the parents of the deceased student to maintain transparency during the inquiry.

A preliminary review of the footage has reportedly pointed to the involvement of some students in ragging activities, which may have contributed to the tragic death. Police said all available evidence is being examined and scrutinized thoroughly and carefully.

The boy was found dead on November 1 inside the premises of Sainik School at Niglok in East Siang district. His death triggered outrage after reports that he had sent a message to his sister before his death, alleging that seniors were torturing him.

The boy’s family members have alleged that he was subjected to severe ragging and mental harassment inside the hostel.

To ensure a fair and thorough investigation, the case has been handed over to the Crime Branch (Special Investigation Team) in Itanagar, which will carry out the probe under close supervision.
