Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has approved a financial grant of Rs 25 lakh for cricketer Uma Chetry in recognition of her outstanding performance at the 2025 Women’s World Cup, where Team India lifted the championship title.

The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting held on Saturday.

The Golaghat-born wicketkeeper-batter played a key role in India’s victorious campaign, earning praise for her contributions on the field.

The grant is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to encourage sportspersons from Assam who excel at the national and international levels.

The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) on Sunday felicitated Uma Chetry in recognition of her remarkable achievement.

The felicitation ceremony, held at the 91 Yards Club auditorium within the ACA Stadium complex, was graced by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia as the chief guest.

Assam Cricket Association (ACA) President Taranga Gogoi, Vice-President Romen Dutta, Joint Secretary Rajendra Singh, Treasurer Anupam Deka, Apex Council member Mukuta Nanada Bhattacharya, and several other dignitaries were also in attendance.

In recognition of Uma Chetry’s remarkable achievement, the ACA announced a cash award of Rs 51 lakh, which was presented to her during the event. District units affiliated with the ACA, along with various state sports associations, also felicitated her on the occasion.

In his address, Saikia lauded Uma’s inspiring journey and said that her achievement had not only made Assam proud but also opened a new chapter for women’s cricket in the Northeast.
