New Delhi: A 23-year-old woman from Manipur was found dead in her rented accommodation in South Delhi’s Mahipalpur area on Sunday night, with police suspecting electrocution as the cause of death.
According to police sources, the woman, who worked with a software firm in Gurugram, is believed to have been electrocuted while using an electric rod heater to warm water in her bathroom.
She had been residing on the fourth floor of a rented building in Mahipalpur for several months.
Officials said a PCR call was received at the Vasant Kunj (South) police station around 8.19 p.m., reporting that a woman had been found unresponsive inside a locked room.
When officers reached the scene, they discovered her lying motionless in the bathroom, still holding the heating rod.
Preliminary findings suggest that the woman had gone to bathe while preparing to attend a social gathering.
When she did not return for an extended period, a friend living in the same building grew worried and alerted the caretaker.
With the door bolted from inside, they sought help to open it, only to find the woman dead.

The crime and forensic teams examined the site, and her body was sent to Safdarjung Hospital for an autopsy.
“Initial investigation indicates accidental electrocution. No evidence of foul play has been found so far,” a senior police officer said.
The building’s caretaker, Shahil, confirmed that the incident occurred in room number 403.
“Her friend called me after she stopped responding. We managed to open the door and found her in the bathroom with the rod still in her hand. She had moved in around June,” he said.
Police have launched a detailed probe to confirm the exact cause of death.
