Guwahati: Assamese feature film ‘Goodbye Guruji’ was screened on Monday (November 10) as the opening film for the Teen Indie Film Awards (TIFA) 2025, organised by RV University, Bengaluru. The festival is being held from November 10 to 14.

Directed by Arunjit Borah, ‘Goodbye Guruji’ features Partha Pratim Hazarika and Aimee Barua in pivotal roles. The film, which was recently screened at the Festival Gange Sur Seine in Paris, France, is already receiving appreciation for its storytelling and cultural depth.

Expressing his emotions ahead of the Bengaluru screening, director Arunjit Borah said, “I dedicate the screening of ‘Goodbye Guruji’ at TIFA to the memory of our beloved Zubeen Garg. This is a very difficult time for all of us as we are yet to come to terms with the passing of the legend.”

A tribute was paid in respect of Zubeen Garg before the opening film was screened at TIFA on November 10.

Reflecting on the film’s international reception, he added. “People attending the screening in Paris loved the concept of the film. It beautifully showcases the thousand-year-old heritage of Assam through its portrayal of Bhaona. I am sure the young audience at RV University will connect with the film’s concept and its treatment.”

Produced by National Film Development Corporation of India Limited (NFDC) in association with Cinecraft Productions and supported by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, ‘Goodbye Guruji’ is expected to be released across theatres in Assam next year.

The film also features Rupjyoti Mahanta, Rupkumar Borah, Naba Mahanta and Anyun Kashyap in leading roles. The story is by Sanjeev Tiwari, with screenplay by Arunjit Borah and Maharshi Tuhin Kashyap, who is also the associate director.

The associate producer of the film is Aparajita Bhuyan. The film’s visual aesthetic is shaped by director of photography Asutosh Kashyap, art director Arup Dutta, make-up designer Panku Hazarika and DI colourist Hadwit Baglari.
