Kohima: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has gathered more than two lakh signatures under its ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ campaign, a state-wide initiative calling for clean and fair elections while protesting alleged electoral malpractice by the ruling BJP and its allies.
NPCC Working President Khriedi Theunuo said the state unit exceeded the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) target of 1.5 lakh signatures, collecting a total of 2,08,057 from 12 District Congress Committees (DCCs).
Kohima led the drive with 72,000 signatures, followed by Dimapur (50,000) and Mokokchung (10,000).
Theunuo said the collected signatures will soon be sent to the AICC headquarters in New Delhi, which will forward them to the President of India.
“The ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ campaign is a democratic awareness movement aimed at protecting the sanctity of the vote,” he said.
NPCC President and Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir congratulated party members and supporters for the successful completion of the signature drive.
He said the initiative was part of the Congress’s broader effort to reach the grassroots and encourage electoral transparency ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.

“Our goal is to ensure a clean election. We are not against individuals but against policies and programmes that fail to reach the people,” Jamir said.
He added that the campaign was open to citizens across party lines, reflecting a united call against vote manipulation.
“The signature drive was not confined to Congress supporters. It was open to all voters who believe in safeguarding their democratic rights,” Jamir said, asserting that the party will continue to advocate for electoral integrity and accountability in governance.
