Aizawl: The Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) elections in Mizoram will be held on December 3, the State Election Commission (SEC) announced on Friday.
State Election Commissioner H. Lalthlangliana said voting for the 25-member council will take place across 111 polling stations from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. A re-poll, if necessary, will be conducted on December 4, and counting of votes is scheduled for December 9, he added.
The last date for filing nominations is November 14, while candidates can withdraw their nominations by November 17.
A total of 56,873 voters, including 29,019 women, are eligible to cast their votes in the upcoming polls, where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used. Among the constituencies, Sakeilut has the highest number of voters (3,993), while Cheural has the lowest (1,381). Notably, Hmawngbuchhuah polling station—located at Mizoram’s southern tip along the Indo-Myanmar border—has only one registered voter, Lalthlangliana said.
The LADC, one of the three autonomous district councils in southern Mizoram, was created in 1972 under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution to represent the Lai tribal community. The other two ADCs are the Mara ADC in Siaha district and the Chakma ADC in Lawngtlai district.
