Guwahati: Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, has urged the launch of a “national movement” seeking an inquiry into the functioning of the Election Commission, in the wake of vote theft allegations made by party leader Rahul Gandhi.
Gandhi alleged on Wednesday that the 2024 Haryana Assembly polls were “stolen”, citing electoral rolls data to claim that 25 lakh fake entries had been made and accused the Election Commission of colluding with the BJP to ensure its victory.
“The inaction of the EC on ‘vote chori’ is akin to admission of guilt and is a feeble attempt to cover up this injustice against the people of India,” Gogoi said in a post on X.
“There must be a national movement to demand an inquiry into the functioning of the Election Commission and reform of this important institution,” the Assam Congress president said.
“The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Shri @RahulGandhi ji is fighting for a free and fair election in India. He has continued to show the scale of the fraud in the voter lists and the cover-up by the people heading the Election Commission. People who are appointed by the Prime Minister of India. There has to be national movement for reform of the Election Commission. This has to be a clarion call by all the people,” he added.

The BJP rejected the allegations of large-scale vote theft as “false and baseless,” accusing the Congress leader of questioning the Election Commission to divert attention from his failures and malign the country’s democratic institutions.
