Aizawl: The Mizoram government has released over Rs. 118 crore this year to procure raw ginger from local farmers under its flagship Bana Kaih (Handholding) scheme, officials said on Monday.
The update was shared during a meeting of the Mizoram Agricultural Marketing Board (MAMB) chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, where officials reviewed the progress of the state’s agricultural initiatives and upcoming harvest preparations.
According to an official statement, Rs. 118.89 crore has already been disbursed as support price to ginger growers, while another Rs. 20 crore remains to be released.
So far, a total of 3,38,354 quintals of ginger have been procured during the current season.

The state also expects to receive Rs. 9 crore in financial assistance from the Centre under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for the 2025–26 fiscal to further support procurement operations.
The meeting also discussed Mizoram’s participation in an upcoming NITI Aayog consultation on ginger, aimed at strengthening market linkages and boosting farmer incomes.
Meanwhile, officials said the government has completed an inquiry into alleged irregularities in ginger procurement and distribution in Champhai district.
The probe report has been submitted to the Agricultural Marketing Board for further action.
