Gangtok: The Sikkim government on Monday announced that all government offices, including public sector undertakings (PSUs) and banks, will observe ‘Traditional Wear Work Day’ every Thursday.
In a circular issued by the Home Department on Monday, the state government said the initiative is aimed at fostering pride in Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage and promoting traditional values among employees.
Effective immediately, all officers and staff members are encouraged to wear traditional attire representing Sikkim’s diverse cultural fabric every Thursday, the circular reads.
This initiative aligns with the vision of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), who has been a steadfast advocate for preserving and promoting Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage.
More than a dress code, this initiative represents a gentle cultural revival — a weekly reminder of the people’s roots, heritage, and the vibrant traditions that define their identity.
It encourages everyone to embrace and celebrate Sikkim’s culture with pride, not only on special occasions but as an integral part of everyday life.
