Dirang: In a boost to adventure sports in Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Pema Khandu has announced that the state government will double the number of youths sponsored for training at the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), Dirang, from 200 to 400 annually.
“We have decided to increase the number of youths sponsored by govt of Arunachal, for training at NIMAS, Dirang, from 200 to 400 annually,” CM Khandu posted on X.
During his visit to NIMAS, the country’s only institute offering training in all three domains of adventure—land, air, and water—the chief minister reviewed campus facilities and ongoing development works with the institute’s Director, Col. Ranveer Singh Jamwal, a renowned mountaineer.
Khandu said the expansion is aimed at encouraging more youth from the state to pursue adventure sports, allowing a greater number of young people to benefit from professional training and structured skill development in the field.
“This expansion will inspire more young Arunachalis to embrace the spirit of adventure, discipline, and leadership,” he stated.
Located in Dirang, West Kameng district, NIMAS is the country’s premier adventure sports institute, offering certified training in mountaineering, aero-adventure, and aqua-adventure under one roof.
Established under the Ministry of Defence, the institute plays a key role in promoting adventure tourism, high-altitude training, national expeditions, and youth skill development across India.
