Guwahati: Veteran singer, lyricist, composer, and former radio announcer Syed Sadulla passed away on Thursday (October 30) at the age of 77 while undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Sadulla, celebrated for his outstanding contribution to Assamese music and culture, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday after being diagnosed with a severe blood-related ailment and remained in critical condition until his passing.
His demise marks the end of an era in Assam’s musical and cultural sphere, leaving behind a timeless legacy cherished by generations of admirers.
According to reports, the artiste, who had been diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL), breathed his last around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Born on February 1, 1948, in Dibrugarh district, Syed Sadullah was a multifaceted talent who served as a presenter at All India Radio, Dibrugarh, and was widely known for his soulful voice and deep contributions to Assamese music and culture.
Meanwhile, the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has condoled the passing away of a prominent singer, songwriter and composer.
AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, “We are saddened by the passing away of Syed Sadulla. He was a well-known voice of Akashvani Dibrugarh who became popular among the people of Assam as a radio announcer.”
“His love for Assam — its people and its land — was truly exemplary, and this profound affection was reflected in all his works,” Gogoi added.

He further said that the passing of the veteran artiste, who loved Assam with all his heart, is an irreparable loss to the state’s cultural sphere.
