Mumbai: The film and television fraternity gathered in Mumbai on Sunday to bid a tearful farewell to veteran actor Satish Shah, whose funeral was held at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Vile Parle West.
The 74-year-old actor passed away on Saturday due to kidney failure.
Prominent colleagues, co-stars, and friends attended the last rites to pay their respects. Among them were his Sarabhai vs Sarabhai co-actors Rupali Ganguly, Sumeet Raghavan, Rajesh Kumar, Ratna Pathak Shah, and Anang Desai.
Veteran actors Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Supriya Pathak, filmmaker David Dhawan, and Ashoke Pandit were also present, along with Niel Nitin Mukesh, Deepak Parashar, Avatar Gill, and Rumi Jaffery.
Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, who shared the news of Shah’s passing, said the actor had suddenly fallen ill at his Bandra residence and was rushed to Hinduja Hospital in Shivaji Park, where he breathed his last.
“It’s a huge loss for the industry. Satish was not only a brilliant actor but also a wonderful human being,” Pandit said in a video message.
Satish Shah, remembered for his effortless humour and expressive performances, was one of Indian entertainment’s most loved character actors.

He made his mark in both cinema and television, delighting audiences with classics like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Main Hoon Na, and Om Shanti Om.
On television, Shah achieved cult status with Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi—where he portrayed a range of comic roles—and as the witty patriarch Indravadan Sarabhai in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, a performance that remains etched in pop culture.
Over a career spanning more than four decades, Shah became synonymous with sharp wit, warmth, and understated humour, leaving behind a legacy of laughter that continues to resonate with generations of viewers.
