Agartala: North Tripura district has been named one of the five best-performing districts under the PM-JANMAN (Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan) program by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
The award was presented to District Magistrate Chandni Chandran by President Droupadi Murmu during a formal ceremony held in New Delhi on Friday.
Accepting the honour on behalf of the district, District Magistrate Chandi Chandra stated: “This recognition stands as a testament to the remarkable efforts of the District Welfare Officer (DWO), Block Development Officers (BDOs), and all line departments, working under the guidance of the Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Tripura.”
Alongside North Tripura, Dhamtari in Chhattisgarh, Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh, Udham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand, and Navsari in Gujarat were also felicitated for their outstanding performance under the program.
The PM JANMAN initiative—aimed at ensuring justice, rights, and welfare for tribal communities across India—has made significant strides in North Tripura, driven by effective local implementation, active community participation, and robust inter-departmental coordination.

Officials noted that the award recognizes the district’s sustained efforts to enhance welfare and administrative services for tribal communities, in line with the central government’s vision of inclusive development.
