Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Tuesday said the state emerged as one of the leading tourist destinations in the Northeast last year.
He said Mizoram recorded over 5.2 lakh tourist arrivals in 2024 — a 139.5 per cent increase from the previous year.
The chief minister added that tourist inflow is expected to grow significantly following the extension of the railway line to Sairang, which connected Mizoram to the country’s railway network for the first time.
Addressing the Hnahsin (Cosmos Flower) Festival in Champhai district, Chief Minister Lalduhoma said that with improved connectivity and continuous efforts to promote the tourism sector, Mizoram had been attracting an increasing number of visitors. He added Mizoram was one of the fastest growing states in the Northeast in terms of tourist attraction last year.
He noted that Mizoram holds immense tourism potential to strengthen its economy, provided the residents preserve their land and showcase Mizo traditions and moral values through hospitality and friendliness towards visitors.
The chief minister said that Mizoram is rich in heritage and historical sites to attract tourists.

Notably, the Bairabi-Sairang railway line, which was considered one of the most challenging projects in Indian Railway history, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13. The railway line links Mizoram’s capital Aizawl with the rest of the country through Assam’s Silchar town.
