Imphal: A 67-year-old woman was found murdered at her residence in Manipur’s capital on Monday evening, triggering shock and outrage in the locality, police said.
The victim, identified as retired physiotherapist Dr. Ashem Rita, was discovered lying in a pool of blood on the second floor of her home at Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak in Imphal West district.
According to police, preliminary investigations indicate that she may have been struck on the back of her head with a blunt object.
The attack is suspected to have occurred while she was alone at home.
Her husband and son found her motionless when they returned and immediately rushed her to a private hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

A police and forensic team later examined the crime scene and collected evidence to trace those responsible.
Condemning the incident, Chingakham Jamuna, a representative of a local club, said, “We strongly denounce this barbaric act which has created panic in the area. The culprits must be arrested without delay.”
