Ahmedabad: In a major leadership shift, Shubman Gill has been named captain of the Indian ODI team for the upcoming tour of Australia, replacing Rohit Sharma.
The announcement, made on Saturday by the BCCI, comes as part of a gradual transition in the white-ball setup, while retaining seasoned campaigners like Rohit and Virat Kohli in the squad.
Shreyas Iyer has been appointed vice-captain for the three-match ODI series.
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the 50-over leg to manage his workload, while young left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal returns to the ODI side after impressive performances in T20 internationals.
The three ODIs are scheduled across Sydney, Adelaide, and Melbourne from October 19 to 25, followed by a five-match T20 series.
