GUWAHATI: The Manipur government has finally verified the contents of the viral video that has caused much uproar across the state and nationally on Monday and informed that CBI has been requested to take up the case.
The state security advisor told the press that the contents of the video are authentic and the unfortunate man in it is one 37-year-old Lal Ding Thanga Khongsai, also known as Lal James.
“The content of the video is a sequel to the incident on May 4 when two women were paraded naked by a mob on the streets. We have found the mortal remains of the body of the deceased which are at the Janims Hospital,” said Kuldeip Singh.
The former CRPF Chief also added that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been requested to take up the case. He reasoned that since, the CBI is already investigating the May 4 viral video, this case will throw more light into the entire investigation.
Earlier on Sunday, a video, featuring a man dressed in black T-shirt and camouflage trousers lying in a trench and on fire, had gone viral igniting a political storm across the state and nation.
So far, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has refuted claims made by tribal organisations regarding the incident while the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) commented on the situation, labelling it as “extremely sad and shameful.”
The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) has vehemently condemned the shocking and barbaric incident. In a statement, the apex tribal body in the state, had said that the video is a harrowing testament to the ethnic cleansing campaign against the Kuki-Zo community by the majority Meiteis.
