Imphal: Manipur Police on Saturday detained two people in connection with the deadly ambush on an Assam Rifles convoy in Bishnupur district that left two personnel dead and five others injured.
The attack took place on Friday evening in Nambol Sabal Leikai, where armed men opened fire on a vehicle of the paramilitary force.
Security forces subsequently launched a massive search operation in the Shantipur and Ishok areas, leading to the detention of two individuals for questioning, police said in a late-night statement.
A silver-blue van suspected to have been used by the attackers was also recovered from Mutum Yangbi in Imphal West district, about 10 km from the ambush site.

Preliminary investigation has revealed multiple owners of the vehicle, and police said efforts are on to trace further links.
The ambush marks one of the deadliest assaults on security forces in the state in recent months.
