Shillong: The Meghalaya cabinet on Thursday cleared amendments to the state excise rules, a decision projected to boost revenue by nearly Rs. 90 crore annually.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the changes would align Meghalaya’s pricing structure with that of neighbouring states, making the market more competitive while enhancing revenue collection.
Alongside the excise reforms, the cabinet accepted the findings of an independent inquiry into the functioning of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).
The report, which examined issues of procurement, AT&C losses, and human resource management, will be uploaded on the government’s website for public access.
