Imphal: Two persons were arrested in Imphal for alleged involvement in issuing of ‘fake’ Inner Line Permit (ILP) passes with forged signatures of Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East district.
Police said a complaint was lodged by the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East that some people were issuing fake ILP passes with forged signatures.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Heingang police station. In follow up action of the case a team of Heingang police station, led by its officer-in-charge, Kh Pathou, detained one Prabir Pal.
Prabir Pal was identified to be son of Jagabandu Pal of Uttar Nawabganj Balasi in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal.
It was found that Prabir Pal’s original ILP pass expired on June 25 this year. Subsequently, he got a new ILP with validity till 2023. But, the new ILP had a forged signature of Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East.
Prabir Pal disclosed that he was given the fake ILP pass by one Nasim from Imphal. Based on Prabir’s confession, police picked up Nasim from his residence.
Nasim Ali has been identified to the son of Naris Ali of Yairipok Ningthounai Yambem in Imphal East district.
During preliminary interrogation, Nasim revealed that he collected Aadhaar cards of non-locals who wanted to stay in Manipur for longer duration.
The Aadhaar cards are sent to people in Assam where some people would make fake ILP passes and send it back to him on WhatsApp. Nasim would then print the fake ILP and give it to people in Manipur.
Prabir Pal and Nasim Ali were arrested and remanded to police custody after they were produced before CJM of Imphal East.
