Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Bhalla has convened a meeting with Kuki-Zo BJP MLAs at Churachandpur ahead of the likely visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13.
The meeting, held at the DC office of the district on Tuesday, was attended by Ngursanglur Sanate from Tipaimukh (ST), Vungzagin Valte from Thanlon (ST), Letzamang Haokip from Henglep (ST), L M Khaute from Churachandpur (ST), and Paolienlal Haokip from Saikot (ST), along with BJP Churachandpur district president Thanglam Haokip.
All five legislators represent constituencies from Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts.
While the agenda of the meeting is yet to be ascertained, sources said that it could be in connection with the preparatory measures for the PM’s visit taken up in the district.
The PM is likely to visit two locations, including Kangla in Imphal and Churachandpur districts, a Kuki-Zo-dominated district.
This was Governor Bhalla’s second round of discussions with political leaders in recent days.
On Sunday, he interacted with around 20 BJP MLAs from the Imphal Valley, including former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and state party president A. Sharda Devi.
Notably, the prime minister’s proposed visit would be his first to the state since ethnic clashes between Meiteis and Kukis broke out in May 2023.

PM Modi is expected to arrive on September 13 and will address two public gatherings: one at the Peace Ground in Churachandpur and another at Imphal’s historic Kangla Fort.
