Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced that 18 Bangladeshi nationals who had entered the state illegally were sent back across the border.
In a post on X, Sarma said, “Eighteen of them were pushed back last night,” though he did not mention the specific district from where the deportation took place.
He added that the state government was following all necessary protocols to ensure those sent back do not re-enter Assam.
The chief minister has been consistently sharing updates about actions against illegal immigrants.
On September 3, he had revealed that 13 infiltrators apprehended in Barpeta were returned to Bangladesh.
“While some deal with Kangaroos, we have to deal with… Anyway, our vigil remains strong,” he had remarked in that post.

Assam shares a 267.5 km-long border with Bangladesh through Dhubri, South Salmara-Mankachar, Cachar, and Sribhumi districts.
Security forces have stepped up vigilance in these areas as part of a broader state-wide campaign against undocumented immigrants.
According to official data, more than 450 Bangladeshi nationals have been deported from Assam in recent months.
