Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Health Minister Biyuram Wahge has urged the Union government to extend support for strengthening the state’s healthcare system, particularly through the establishment of a Super Speciality Hospital in the Itanagar Capital Region.
During a meeting with Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda in New Delhi on Friday, Wahge highlighted the challenges faced by Arunachal Pradesh as a border state with difficult terrain and limited medical infrastructure.
He said the proposed hospital would significantly reduce the need for patients to travel outside the state for advanced treatment.
Officials said Wahge also underlined the strategic importance of the facility, noting that it would act as a referral hub not only for Arunachal Pradesh but for other Northeastern states as well.
The Health Minister further discussed preparations for the North East Regional Health Conference, which the state will host in October.

The event is expected to bring together health ministers, commissioners, secretaries, and mission directors from all Northeastern states to deliberate on policy frameworks, share best practices, and foster collaborative planning.
Wahge confirmed that Union Minister Nadda has agreed to attend the conference, terming his participation a “major boost” for the region’s healthcare sector.
Expressing gratitude for the Centre’s support, Wahge said, “This partnership is crucial for realising our vision of providing accessible, advanced healthcare to people across even the remotest corners of the state.”
