Kolkata: A former Bangladesh Police officer has been arrested by the Border Security Force for illegally entering Indian territory in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.
The BSF’s 143rd battalion made the arrest at the Hakimnagar border outpost when he was trying to cross the border on Saturday, an official said.
The apprehended Bangladeshi has been identified as Md Arifuzzaman.
He was the former ASP of the 2nd Battalion of Armed Forces at Muktagacha in Bangladesh’s Maymansingh district.
He was handed over to the West Bengal police and put under arrest, the official said.
Authorities are currently investigating the purpose of his visit.

As per reports, Arifuzzaman was in the Bangladesh Police Force during the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s regime and then went into hiding on August 14, 2024.
The infiltrator claimed that the interim government in Bangladesh recently suspended him from the police force.
