Shillong: A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and a civilian were seriously injured when an LPG cylinder exploded at a rented house in Shillong’s Umpling Lumdiengmet locality late Tuesday night, police said.
The blast occurred around 10 pm in the kitchen of the ground-floor apartment where the two men were staying. The injured have been identified as Sandeep Kumar, a BSF jawan, and Subham Cheran Momin.
Both were first taken to the BSF hospital at Umpling before being shifted to NEIGRIHMS for advanced treatment.

One of the victims, reported to be in critical condition, was later referred to Guwahati for specialised care.
The explosion caused severe damage to the house and nearby structures, leaving residents in shock. Locals described hearing a loud bang that sent debris flying across the area.
Sources said the BSF personnel had reportedly noticed a gas leak moments before the blast and tried to prevent further danger.
Police have launched an investigation to confirm the cause of the explosion.
