Agartala: Authorities in Tripura are stepping up efforts to complete the World Bank-assisted Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP) by 2029, with priority on road connectivity and human capital development, a senior official said on Sunday.

Chief Operating Officer of TRESP, Gajendra Verma, said one of the project’s biggest components — construction of over 416 km of all-weather roads — is progressing steadily.

Of the total 416.46 km, 71.49 km has been completed, while work is underway on another 133.41 km. Work orders have also been issued for an additional 133.41 km.

Over Rs. 500 crore of the Rs. 1,400-crore multi-sectoral project is earmarked for road infrastructure aimed at boosting rural economies, particularly in tribal belts.

The initiative will cover 23 rural development blocks, including 11 ‘aspirational blocks’.

As part of human capital investment, the project will see the construction of 12 school buildings in tribal-dominated areas.

“Detailed project reports have been prepared and work has begun on four schools,” Verma said, adding that the plan includes teacher training to enhance classroom delivery.

The project also focuses on institutional strengthening through the formation of producer groups (PGs) under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Management programme.

So far, 2,000 PGs have been formed against a target of 2,500.

In the governance and services sector, TRESP aims to roll out single-window, app- and web-based systems to make 144 government services and schemes more accessible.

“A firm has been engaged to study and recommend IT solutions, including process re-engineering,” Verma said.

The Tripura Space Application Centre (TSAC) will also onboard a company to integrate mobile data collection, dashboard systems, and data visualisation tools.

Launched in March 2024, the project is being implemented with around Rs. 1,120 crore in World Bank funding.
