Shillong: Shillong Lajong FC kicked off their Durand Cup 2025 campaign in sensational style, dismantling Malaysia’s Armed Forces Football Team with a thumping 6-0 win in the Group E opener on Saturday.
The young side from Meghalaya displayed clinical precision and attacking flair throughout the match.
Everbrightson Sana and Phrangki Buam led the charge with two goals each, while substitutes Treimiki Lamurong and Deibormame Tongper added one apiece to cap off a commanding performance.
Lajong set the tempo early, dominating possession and pressing high up the pitch.
Their intent bore fruit in the 12th minute when Sana rose above the defence to head home a precise delivery from Rudra Ved, following a well-executed free-kick routine involving Sheen Stevenson.
Malaysia’s Armed Forces struggled to find rhythm, with their best opportunity in the first half falling to Mohamad Syamim Yusoff, whose volley flew just wide after Lajong goalkeeper Siwel Rymbai had punched away a dangerous cross.

After the break, Lajong upped the tempo and overwhelmed the visitors. Buam struck twice in quick succession—first guiding in a set-piece from Stevenson in the 47th minute, and then calmly slotting in a second two minutes later after a sharp through ball caught the Malaysian defence flat-footed.
Sana added to the tally in the 66th minute with a sharp turn and finish inside the box, completing his brace and pushing Lajong 4-0 ahead.
Lamurong made an instant impact off the bench, curling in a superb effort from outside the box in the 73rd minute, while Tongper put the icing on the cake just before full-time with a composed finish following a swift attacking move.
