Itanagar: Kipa Mero has etched her name into Arunachal Pradesh’s sporting history by becoming the first athlete from the state to qualify for the World Para Athletics Championship 2025.
Mero secured the coveted spot after winning a bronze medal in the Javelin Throw (F13 category) at the recently concluded 7th International Para Athletics Championship held in Bengaluru.
Taking to X, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu posted, “Congratulations and best wishes to Kipa Mero — the first-ever athlete from Arunachal to qualify for the #WorldParaAthletics Championships 2025!”
Khandu added, “A historic milestone as she carries the hopes of our State onto the world stage. May her journey continue to inspire many to dream big and break barriers.”
The prestigious 12th edition of the World Para Athletics Championships is set to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi from September 26 to October 5.
In March this year, Mero won a gold medal in the javelin throw in the Khelo India Para Games 2025 in New Delhi.
She clinched the gold medal in the Women’s F-13 Javelin event with an impressive throw of 22.46m.

With the participation of over 100 countries and more than 2,500 athletes in the sporting event, the event is anticipated to be the largest para-sport gathering ever hosted in India.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on June 20 unveiled the logo and mascot of the event.
