Guwahati: The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati has recorded its highest-ever single-day and monthly cargo tonnage, highlighting its growing importance as a logistics hub in the Northeast.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Adani Group-managed Guwahati International Airport Ltd (GIAL) announced that the airport handled 42.43 metric tonnes (MT) of cargo on June 28, 2025—setting a new single-day record and surpassing its previous high of 40.43 MT recorded in 2024.
This marks a 4.95% year-on-year increase.
The cargo terminal also achieved a monthly cargo volume of 845.7 MT in June, the highest since the start of operations.
This reflects a 124.93% rise over June 2024’s 376 MT figure. The previous monthly peak was 754 MT in January 2025.
“This sustained upward trajectory in cargo movement is a testament to enhanced operational capabilities, increased efficiency in handling, and our airport’s strategic positioning in regional logistics,” said a GIAL spokesperson.
Data for the first quarter of FY 2025-26 shows consistent growth. In April, the terminal processed 698.05 MT, nearly doubling the 356 MT recorded in April 2024—a 96.08% increase.

May also saw a 90.59% jump, with volumes rising from 389 MT in 2024 to 741.38 MT this year.
According to GIAL, major outbound destinations include Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Bengaluru, with Agartala and Imphal being key Northeast contributors.
On the import front, Bengaluru and Jaipur were noted for significant inbound cargo, especially floral products.
“These milestones not only reflect operational success but also signal growing economic activity and increasing integration of the Northeast into national trade networks,” the spokesperson added.
