India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh, which was scheduled to take place in August, is likely to be postponed because of the situation prevailing in the country over the last few months, as per sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
BCCI is “wary” of the security situation in the country which is in turmoil since last year’s civil unrest that resulted in the overthrowing of the Sheikh Hasina-led government.
The fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, among other things, has triggered one of the biggest diplomatic stand-offs in the region, souring the relationship between the neighbours.
India were to play three T20 Internationals and three ODIs during the tour from August 17 to 31 in Chittagong and Dhaka.
“Apparently BCCI is wary about the security situation in Bangladesh post the civil unrest,” a BCCI source told a news agency.
“India tour of Bangladesh is likely to be called off as the government has advised the BCCI not to go there as the situation is not ok there. The official announcement regarding this will be made soon,” the source said.
India last travelled to Bangladesh in 2024, where both teams locked horns against each other in a three-match T20I (3-0) and a two-match Test series (2-0). The visitors registered a clean sweep over the Bangla Tigers as they didn’t lose a single game on the tour.
